Sports and the Development
I did my research paper on the study of the social and cognitive
effects of playing sports at a young age. Basically all this means is lots of
research about how playing sports at a young age affects the development of a
person and what they learn from the sport. I found that some kids use sports as
a way of releasing stress but at the same time they start to develop aggressive
traits that can lead to very bad social skills. Also in a few studies
psychologist found that early sports can be overly intense and lead a child to
have bad skills of coping or dealing with situations. In one of the books by
sports journalist Mark Hyman, titled until it hurts, talks about how there are
some parents that pretty much make their child play sports. The parent makes the
child believe that there’s nothing more important than playing sports and sports will be great no matter how hard or how much pain you’re in. It’s
called, "the whatever it takes" mentality, which can lead to some very serious
injuries.
These examples would be the cons now for some pros. There have been numerous amounts of
research that has proved that
children that are involved in organized sports are better academically and get
offered greater jobs. The skills learned from sports such as working together,
leadership, commitment, strategic thinking, etc.; all help shape a young child.
A reason why sports help academically is in most cases at a young age it’s
required to have a certain grade and if the requirement is not met then you
won’t be able to play. These little incentives that can move a child in the
right direction. Some jobs actually look at sports history when going through
the interview process. So sports can be used as a resume builder and at the same
time help with the development of a child for a successful future.
